I've not found it to be a problem in my i4, yes things do get warm but I've never had anything get excessively hot to have it as a concern for me.

Interestingly evo magazine in the UK recently did a road test comparison of the i4 Emira against the Morgan Plus Four, which I've summarised from an Emira perspective here. My i4 has privacy glass and is painted body colour (DV) under the glass, no black plastic finish like you're describing.

My understanding is that the mesh on the intakes is i4 specific, it has been present since at least December last year (as can be seen in this post from valentinewang).
