I will mount performance all-seasons and drive on decent winter days. Otherwise, it's location, location , location. A few reasons not to drive in my location: Snow Ice Salt and other chemicals Difficulty in washing car in freezing temperatures Potholes Temperatures render stock tires...

What's everyone's placeholder given this long wait??

No complaints with my current fun car. Still eager to get the Emira, though.

V6 FE dyno results and weight

Since all dyno calcs come from WHP, you have to take the WHP/(1-drivetrain loss)=BHP. So 333.7/.85=397.5. THEN, you apply the correction factor for temp and altitude to get the standardized (corrected) crank hp. So, according to that it's pulling 409 at the crank. If you want to get the...

V6 FE dyno results and weight

The dyno measures WHP. They entered a standard 15% drivetrain loss to arrive at an engine HP.

V6 FE dyno results and weight

The IAT sensor may be on the boosted side of the supercharger. Some cars integrate the IAT with the Boost pressure sensor. So, that would account for the increase in temperature.

    Real 0-60

So I shouldn't expect links to the "racing drivers on Youtube only hitting 6 seconds" to be provided by the OP? Darn, that's a completely unexpected development.

    Track day preparations

Good ideas so far. Also: - Good tire pressure gauge. Your pressures will increase dramatically and you'll find yourself needing to lower after the session to maintain correct pressure. - Mechanix gloves or something similar. Important if you need to reach into hot engine bay, or touch area...

Another breakdown! Id happily have my money back now

2005 Elise. No gremlins during my ownership - sold in 2014. No problems with Lotus service. Lots of mods. Drove the absolute hell out of it on track. One of very few cars I wish I'd never sold.

What if ... BMW engine in an Emira

I didn’t like the sound of the S55 in my F87 either. I went with equal length midpipes, ditched the secondary cats and resonators. Totally different experience! You might give it a try!

    Emira performance - disappointing?

Don't put your words in my mouth. Lotus is not slow, just too slow for your lofty expectations. They are plenty fast and fun to drive. I don't find Lotus to be unreliable, and never said they were. I've had several and they were as reliable as any car. Overpriced? Maybe, but probably not...

    Emira performance - disappointing?

No, I don't think he'd disagree. His road cars were never the fastest and he never tried to make them the fastest. Just the most fun to drive.

Another breakdown! Id happily have my money back now

IMO, it's not so much the price point but the volume. Higher volume marques have more development money, more robotics, and more units to discover and weed out issues and will probably have less problems. Think of models like Jaguar, Rover, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and other low volume cars...

    Emira performance - disappointing?

Actually the first year Evora was normally aspirated and only produced about 275hp. The same as my RAV4.
  16. KAR120C

    Emira performance - disappointing?

It doesn't. Obviously it's not a compromise for many people. Your personal expectations just don't align with the product they offer. Nothing wrong with that - it just says you need to be looking at a different vehicle.

    Emira performance - disappointing?

I'd like to see a bigger sample size of tests. Regardless, it is what it is. Definitely not worth being unhappy about it, just get the car that works for you.
  18. KAR120C

    Emira performance - disappointing?

4.6 seems faster than 5. But then again every car mag test abuses the shit out of a car to get the numbers lower than a prudent owner ever would. That said, the 0-60 numbers are only marginally, if not completely irrelevant if you want to hang with guys in the twisties. I've never had any...

I guess I missed the memo. When did the Emira become a 5 second car?
  20. KAR120C

    Emira performance - disappointing?

The Lotus badge has never represented high power. It's always been about finesse. If you thought you were getting the fastest stoplight car when you ordered it, you have always been destined for disappointment.

    Throwing codes

A CEL is yellow warning for a reason. You're not in imminent danger of hurting anything, especially if it's just an O2 sensor. If people stopped driving a car every time an O2 code flashed, the highways would be littered with abandoned cars. You are absolutely fine for a short period of time...

I know they have deposits on the Emira from all over the country. And I also know that people drive from multiple states away to get their Lotus serviced there!

    Throwing codes

You can drive with O2 issues without a problem. My understanding is that a car is drivable with the CEL on. If the CEL starts to flash, then you must not drive it or you'll risk damage.

    Radar Detector hardwire?

To use the USB for many radar detectors, the voltage needs to be increased from 5V to 12V. Amazon sells a ton 5V to 12V adapters, but here is one that is ready made for the RJ11 plug...

News About Lotus Dealers in the U.S.

We, as customers, are frustrated with the delays. The smaller dealerships are seeing an unplanned lack of cash flow from their Emira sales and are really frustrated. Rough situation for everyone. I hope the US cert process doesn't drag on like the Evora's.

News About Lotus Dealers in the U.S.

It will be interesting to see if Geely does have any presence with the dealerships in the future. Right now dealerships in the US are contracted with Lotus USA. They don't even have much direct connection to Hethel. As far as bankrolling Lotus dealerships, they are own their own and bear the...

    USA/Canada Delivery Thread

Cars should be enjoyable. In my opinion, life is way too short to experience stress over a car. NA buyers haven't experienced anything first hand, except a long wait. If it's already stressing you, and you don't even have the car, it's probably time to get out and find another car that you...

I had a proper 45 minutes with a demo car today at Gator. Plenty of time to get the seat adjusted just right, and try out all 3 drive settings. Last time they had a Sport suspension car. This time it’s a touring version. My thoughts after a proper drive with enough time to get somewhat...

Lack of power steering on day one

I think you are misreading my posts. I agree that issues happen and those issues must be addressed by Lotus. And by all means people should report them on the forum for others to hear about. My point: members who are NOT experiencing those issues trying to turn those issues into dramatic...

Lack of power steering on day one

Yes, I'm one of those people who have an order and is waiting on my car. Yes, I know a lot of people are unfamiliar with Lotus. No, I don't believe the car is a disaster and people should avoid it. Hundreds of Emiras out there being driven happily and without problems. Some actually on this...

Lack of power steering on day one

Possibly, but for people in NA who won't see their cars for at least 6 months to get frustrated about ANYTHING but the long delivery time is fruitless. I recommend NA owners save their angst until we actually have a product in hand.

Lack of power steering on day one

You are correct. My hastily typed comment was referencing the dramatic statement that Lotus can't get a system correctly designed that's been around a long time. If it's like a lot of other parts, the pump is designed and sourced from Bosch, Hitachi, Toyota, or some other mass producer...
