V8 Emira being considered to replace V6

If they built the uber expensive and low volume Evija, I think it's fair to say that investing in a premium version of the much higher volume Emira is something that Geely would seriously entertain. If another manufacturer does the heavy lifting of bringing a compliant V8 powertrain to market, Lotus could find a way to adapt it to the Emira at a fraction of the cost of starting with a clean sheet of paper for an all new car. My bet would be on Mercedes as a partner given their close financial relationship with Geely and the precedent we've already seen with the I4.

the 2nd gen 3.5L Ecoboost is a very reliable engine. Probably Ford's best. I think it could possibly fit transversely in the Emira? Noble has proved you can put a manual trans to it. To me that would be the best engine for the Emira over a V8. You can get between 500-650 BHP from these. Lotus powered by Ford!

I agree with everything you say. Love this motor in the Raptor.

If Lotus makes any major structural changes, like lengthening the car or messing with the rear to fit a bigger engine, they'll have to go through another round of crash testing, and any new engine will need emissions testing. Euro-7 is very tough, engines have to run at lambda=1 all the time. This is really difficult. Porsche is solving it with electrically assisted turbos, others are using mild hybrids, but a straight gasoline engine probably won't be able to meet it. In California, they're cracking down on particulate emissions, which are produced by modern direct injected engines, and any new car might need a particulate filter like a diesel.

I would LOVE to see a V8 in an Emira in some way. I gave up on the light weight when I sold my Elise to buy the Emira, so if I'm driving a heavy pig, I want a V8 pig. I doubt it'll happen, though.
I thought the Emira hadn't been crash tested, at least not Euro NCAP?

I totally agree!

Funnily enough I saw this yesterday at Lotus London:

It has always seemed odd to me that the name Lotus doesn't appear anywhere on the Team Lotus JPS cars. I guess those tobacco marketing guys were tough negotiators!
