I use android auto. One of the settings is to not start playing music when the phone connects To the car. Wonder if that might help you.

Sorry! I did buy a magsafe case for my phone. The phone length extends past the cubby, but plenty of room for height. Could a wedge shaped insert help create a better contact with the charger and phone? Hope that makes sense. Dimensions 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9 mm 6.43 x 3.07 x 0.35 in
