I recall seeing some discussion about this on another discussion thread but can’t find it.

I bought my Emira second hand from a private individual in early August 2024 with 200 miles ish on clock. There is no “Date of registration” written in the service book. The Pre-delivery inspection was carried out on 19th October 2023 (fancy hologram sticker included but no dealer stamp) so one can assume car was purchased and placed on the road for the first time at some point after this?

The V5C gives the “date of first registration” as 30th September 2023 so looks as if a dealer or Lotus pre-registered the car to hit sales targets or some such?

No doubt Lotus will want to go for the earlier date but if someone bought a pre-registered car that had sat around for months at a dealers not being used then their warranty period would be seriously reduced.

I know these dates are a while off but want to make sure I schedule some kind of inspection/service well before the warranty expires. Vacation dates impinge on the potential end dates. My service dates have been 31/10/24 and 6/11/25 (time not mileage) so next service due late October/early November so after warranty will have ended.

Normally, the dealer notifies the distributor/manufacturer of the official date of sale of a particular VIN to a consumer. This sale date will be in Lotus's system, and I would expect that the warranty expires three years from that first sale date.

First registration is your date.

The fact that it was “pre-registered” and sat around for x length of time is irrelevant.

All UK cars at that time were registered centrally by Lotus, not a dealer.

Thanks for the responses.

I don’t have a warranty booklet. Would this have originally come with the car?

My dealer stated they could only go by the information provided by Lotus via their computer system, thus was 2 days less than 1st registration. Ask your local Lotus dealer to email you the info off their system.

Lotus would not confirm that they would treat a warranty claim up to 1st registration date, their advice was 'take the car to the dealer and when they put the warranty claim in we'll see'. I sorted the problem myself instead.
