This morning, in the court of public opinion, my car was judged cooler than a Lamborghini Huracan.

There was a local car shown in a church parking lot this morning, and I pulled in next to an orange Huracan. Let me say here that if I had the resources, or more accurately, felt more comfortable being even more irresponsible with the resources I have, a bright orange/yellow/green Huracan would be near the top of my list of new cars to own. I love them! Every time I see one I get excited.

As soon as I get out of my car, a 13 year old comes up and proceeds to tell me that he can’t believe someone in our (relatively small) city has a Lotus. Multiple questions, much admiration for the Emira. Then, two boys, probably about 6 years old, come sprinting across the parking lot, right past the bright orange Huracan, to gawk at my car. “Wow! Coooooool! Can we sit in your car?!?!?!!?” Absolutely!

Even better, my own young son confirmed that now having seen the two cars side by side, he likes my Lotus better!

So, in the court of public opinion, the Emira has been judged by a jury of boys aged 6-13 years old, as superior to the Huracan! And let’s be honest, though we may be “grown” now, we have these cars because it’s what the inner 6 year old boy in us all wants!

I’ve noticed the younger people know about the emira more so than the older crowd. I thought I heard it’s in a popular racing game

I would agree, and I think the Emira’s design is much more smoothly executed. The Huracan’s butt end is almost comically huge! Almost awkward looking. The Emira has much smoother flowing and sexy lines. Not sure if the spectators that gathered during this impromptu golden hour photo shoot would have agreed with me on this!

Well yeah because huracans look stupid (especially bright colored ones with spoilers). All flash, no class.
That's kind of the point of a Lamborghini IMO. They are the `hooligans` of sports cars - and I mean that in a good way. No-one buys a Lamborghini to be subtle.

This summer I had my Emira parked next to a Ferrari 488. A friend of mine (nearly in his 50s) came to see it and said, without a doubt, that my Emira looked better than the Ferrari. I was not sure at all to be honest, but looking at both the cars side by side more and more I started changing my mind just a little. Just a little.

In no part of your story did you say "a young beautiful woman came up to me and asked if the Emira was my car and that it was her dream car". :p The reality is our cars bring out the super car nerds who are in a niche class of even smaller car enthusiasts...dudes. That's ok we still love our cars!
But yes definitely to your point, even in Los Angeles where you see everything exotic there is on the road, guys gawk and point and ask questions - mostly the cliche'd "what is it. is it a purrari?" It's due to the car being relatively "new" and there just not being many on the road. Beautiful Emira love the photos!

I have a 2018 V10+ R8 that no one even looks at twice at Cars & Coffee. When I bring the Emira, it is an entirely different scene.

Come to think of it. Most of the reactions I can think of are from people who are clearly less than 30. Although... there was this one individual, a very much older Asian gentleman in a vintage Corolla, who pulled up to me at a stop light, put his car into park, and extended his entire upper torso out of his driver side window with both hands on his phone to take a photo of my car. He was much more excited to see my car than I had been that morning, and that made me feel a tinge of guilt.

I actually bought my Lotus cars because I love how they drive. Not because it’s cool or I’m trying to impress people.

Lotus drivers don't need any passengers!

Why not both?

I got mine because of the way it drives but I can't pretend I don't also think it's cool; it is a great looking car - there's not many currently made cars that are as good looking, if any. I've had loads of compliments on it from young and old; there's no denying it's a good feeling to brighten the day a little for others. I've not refused anyone asking to sit in it; lots of kids and teens, a couple of older guys including an injured veteran that could no longer drive unassisted - and yes several young ladies.

One time a young Asian couple politely came up to me and asked about the car, I asked if they wanted to sit in it. The lad was a student and said it was his dream car and he knew everything about them. When he got out he told me, that had made his mind up and now he was now determined to study hard for his degree to make sure he could eventually afford to get one. So that was nice.
