I have a US spec, i4 FE. I have seen a lot of posts here about the quality of the KEF system. I am not a huge audiophile but a decent sounding system is something I do enjoy and I don’t think the system here is that bad. I had a BMW M4 with the HK before the Emira and a lot of people complained about that system too even though I thought it was pretty good.

What I can’t figure out is how many speakers are in the system. The only ones I can hear are the two from the doors and a sub. Behind each seat looks like two blanks and the A pillar grills look empty. Also there looks to be a center speaker on the dash, but I can’t tell. I have seen a video that says the car only has two speakers in the doors and I also read that the car has 10 speakers. If I counted up all the places possible for speakers and the sub, I still don’t get 10.

Can someone tell me what the actual speaker configuration is? This is more of a curiosity thing versus a quality of sound complaint.

Not seeing anyone else reply, I’ll tell you what I found/understand and bow to others to correct this:

1. Yes, there are no OEM speakers behind the grills on either side of the interior A-pillars. Could this be a spot ready for speakers in a future Emira upgraded model?

2. Each door has one speaker but they’ve been described as a mid-range and tweeter combo. Does that count as 2 each side, making 4 speakers??

3. Someone mentioned a center tweeter in the dash close to the glass windshield. I didn’t take the dash apart so can’t confirm that. Speaker #5??

4. Behind the seats on either side and higher up, is another speaker which is another combo. I had each of them out when adding sound insulation. 2 “dual” speakers making 4 more?? So that could be up to 9??

5. On the right/passenger side rear (N. Am. cars) behind the seat and lower down beneath the other speaker, is a subwoofer. One only and only on that side. I had it out to sound insulate in that lower cavity. Speaker #10???

Note: I’m admittedly looking to explain the Lotus advertised claim for an “upgraded KEF sound system” in the First Edition Emiras, having 10 speakers. I don’t see it that way and view the car as having 5-6 speakers only, but offer the above as a possible explanation using my imagination. Has anyone asked a dealer to explain, with input from Lotus?

There are 9 drivers total. Left right and center are combo midrange and tweeter drivers, for 6 drivers total. Two midbass drivers are behind the seats. The subwoofer is dual voice coil. So 9 drivers and 10 amplifier channels.

The biggest upgrade to the sound of the premium KEF car stereo in the Emira l4 Turbo (including First Edition and Turbo, Turbo SE) is to get rid of the fake engine sound channeled through that stereo system (see other threads on this forum; especially Forum Member Kaz
