Im looking at buying the Aerie Performance or GRP De-Cat downpipe.
My questions are:
Has anyone installed this and not the rest of the exhaust system?
If so,what are differences in performance etc?
And also, will it be permissible for a track day,i.e not too loud?
There's a fair bit of commentary on the Forum to answer your questions but here goes:
-when replacing my OEM tires with all-seasons, the owner of the tire shop said he LOVED everything about the Emira (the first one he'd seen), except he felt it was too quiet for "a nice sports car".
-I agreed so I installed the GRP third cat delete and the Millteck valve control unit, also purchased from GRP
-I didn't do any other exhaust modifications
-this set up works well: it doesn't throw any ECU codes and with the valve control unit, you can vary your rear exhaust sound. So if you're worried about track day loudness, then go into "quiet/stock mode" and you shouldn't have any issues. It creates a great sound with all sorts of nice pops/gurgles which don't sound "cheap" IMO, unlike car exhaust modifications I've heard on some other vehicles
-I felt the price of these modifications was very reasonable and inexpensive for what you achieved
-personally, I didn't notice any HP/torque increase, but others claim it's there. I suspect it's not much and I think the sound difference is the main benefit
-if you have any DIY skills and tools, this is a fairly easy install and you'll find at least one Forum thread with good install advice, plus GRP provides directions on how to install both. If installing them, MAKE SURE to purchase a new exhaust ring gasket as well (about 10 bucks), since you'll find the old one crumbling and it would be ++ unusual to be able to reuse it
-or any good muffler shop will easily do this work for you. Good luck!
