Another one bites the dust…
I’ve notified my dealer of cancellation of both my Emira order and an Eletre that was going to be shared with the wife.
My original ETA as given by my dealer was November ‘22. I don’t have to tell members on this forum about all the delays. But the combination of...
Except in this case we're only getting one side of the trade-off. Because of the Lotus/Geely ECU combined with the Toyota engine we're getting 15yrs ago performance and also not getting the Toyota reliability on the drivetrain that was supposed to be that trade off.
I could deal with some...
This is my least favorite trope on the entire forum. Implying someone else doesn't have a valid opinion because they either don't have enough seat time, don't "understand" the car, or the car "isn't for them". It's thinly veiled ad hominem at best.
There's an extreme lack of anything new...
Who said anything about heresay? I've driven the car and found the acceleration and power delivery lacking. It's not a non-issue. It's an extreme lack of alternatives with any interest.
Not defending OP here, but some of these defenses of the car are a bit ridiculous. No one thinks this is going to compete with a performance EV, be the stoplight king, or even put up a great quarter mile...
BUT there's still plenty to be disappointed about in the performance space. Lotus'...
Other side of the curve. Throttle closure / tip-out cause the mix to become rich and increase unburnt or partially burnt hydrocarbon emissions. That's why the solution is to keep the throttle body open artificially long (add air). I agree there was no mode difference on my test drive and I...
I could honestly do the $250 if the vehicle was worth it, but the manual is absolutely mandatory for me.
I would absolutely spec a loaded GT3 touring at $200 if there was any way to actually A) get one to my spec, B) anywhere near MSRP...
But everything GT3 is marked up $50-$100 over retail...
This has gotten so frustrating I'm nearing being done with the whole hobby. Between Lotus' total failure to deliver or communicate and Porsche practically promoting the scalpers there's nothing interesting to me that can actually be purchased right now.
I think this is something a ton of people miss when comparing the Emira to other cars. The field of what you call competitors shrinks dramatically if you confine it to new cars with a manual transmission. If you want something semi-exotic mid/rear engined and want to actually be able to order...
Sorry, but this misses the point to a degree that it's effectively victim-blaming. Lotus can't share the information of further delays because people might be mad about them?
I still want the car. Hell, I've got an Eletre on order to share with the wife too… but the lack of communication is...
I was encouraged to push it hard for the test drive.
It will be my 5th manual
I was well aware it wasn’t going to have the low end torque of a turbo.
I still thought that it lacked for power and for any associated drama with acceleration
To be clear, I’m buying the car — I’m not universally...
I'm sure there's some spread on interpreting the Emira's actual speed, but I suspect that there's more agreement on what it is and less agreement on what it should be, what it should be benchmarked against, etc.
My comment giving it a 5/10 was coming from a car advertised at 617hp that is...
I recognize we each have things coloring our views and mine is coming from a much faster but much less analogue vehicle.
I could do without the commentary that others just don’t “understand” the car with the associated implication that no one else’s opinions or preferences are valid.
FWIW my recent JLC experience (like haven't even received the watch yet recent) was a lot more personable than my in person Emira test drive yesterday. My local dealer (yay at least it's there!) is an interesting experience every time and they don't actually have a dedicated Lotus space. Lotus...
I put my breakdown in the test drive review megathread, but the short answer is the engine isn't on par with the rest of the car. It's far from terrible. But the engine is a good bit away from a 10.
My test drive thoughts:
Magma 6MT, Michelins, reportedly sport suspension but my testdrive companion wasn't 100%
Exterior:
9/10
-Paint looked really good
-Wheel gap is fine in person. Would look better lower, but major functional trade offs for me without a front-end lift on offer
-Rear angle...
What would be really cool is if it had a default, but you could change it. Either in the settings on the screen or by a jumper in the fuse box.
GM does something like this with what looks like a double fuse and moving it over one slot makes the 12v accessory turn on-off with the ignition...
If the seal looks prominent because it’s sticking out over bodywork or because it’s sticking up proud of the surface and either of those is just visually highlighting it and it’s also easily removed, then it’s a non-issue. That’s honestly what I’m hoping for as the final solution.
At the same...
The prominent gap and rubber seal aren’t shown on the Matt Windle video about Emira delays where he is standing in front of “customer cars” though. It seems like a separate and later development.
Did anyone at the event ask about the giant weather stripping they’ve now taped on the front that wasn’t there in the official production delay video and if that was a final solution?
It’s making me regret locking in a bright color more than I was originally worried about DV being too black if...
