    Latest Emira Production Update

During the Lotus Technology 1H investor call they were pretty open in saying that Emira prices are going up.

    What is coming 16.09.24??

This is not a production car. It's an ambitious concept car intended to show that Lotus is pushing its thinking about the future. We know that the next Lotus sports car will be the TYP 135, and I'm betting it has almost nothing in common with this.

    What is coming 16.09.24??

I'm baffled by their claim that the design language was inspired by the Esprit. I don't see any Esprit there (other than the after-thought wing tacked on the back)

    What is coming 16.09.24??

Peter Horbury died unexpectedly last year while visiting Lotus in China and the corporate types promoted Ben Payne to replace him. Ben headed the Lotus Technology design team (and before that Geely design) so the EV guys are now running the show. Russell now reports to Ben Payne and his Hethel...

    What is coming 16.09.24??

Won't be TYP 135. Lotus just told investors that it would be delayed by at least a year. The 1H presentation now says TYP 135 (New Model 2) won't launch until 2026 with deliveries in 2027.

Lotus Technology 1H 2024 Financial Results

Don't think this is true. Geely injected another US$110M into Lotus just three months ago. Sadly this massive cash injection will probably be wasted building fat expensive EVs that no one wants.

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

Bugger. Sorry you have to go through this hassle, plus bad news for all Emira owners. Lotus have still not gotten to the root cause of this issue. It's extraordinary; this has been a problem for the brand going all the way back to cars like the Europa, but they still haven't fixed it.

Lotus Technology 1H 2024 Financial Results

It's improbable that Lotus Cars, the Hethel-based sportscar maker, will disappear. The Emira has sold far better than they dreamed and Geely has pumped hundreds of millions into building the brand, modernising the factory and the new design center in Coventry. If Lotus Technology (which...

Lotus Technology 1H 2024 Financial Results

It's eye-opening to listen to the investor call and hear the senior management team answering questions in Mandarin with a translator! Drives home the reality that Lotus Technology (not Lotus Cars) is genuinely a Chinese company and the link to the old Hethel business is pretty tenuous, not...

Lotus Technology 1H 2024 Financial Results

Yes, I can't see Lotus Cars (the Hethel-based company) disappearing. Remember, they're not even legally part of Lotus Technology yet. Lotus Tech has an exclusive license to sell their products and an option to acquire them.

Cars you've sold or passed on and wished you hadn't?

My list of blunders is long and distinguished. For example: -- Passing on very low mileage 993 Turbo at about 25% of the current market price -- Giving up a Land Rover Defender 90 Heritage Edition build slot

    The 1st Edition isn't exclusive

Quite possible that the Base Edition will be a rarer car than the First Edition!

The likely delay of the EV Elise can have consequences on the continuation of the Emira

A better take on the situation would be: Lotus may delay the TYP 135 because it has finally worked out that they pulled the trigger on the shift to 100% BEV vehicles at least five (and possibly ten) years too early.

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

If it's a manufacturing fault, Teijin Automotive will be hit with a massive warranty claim from Lotus. After all, they were selected because they claimed to have a superior formulation that prevented this very issue!

If it's true that Lotus is no longer calling it the i4 for legal reasons, then rebranding it as the Lotus Emira Turbo would actually be quite smart.

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

Lotus has removed the V6 from the configurator in the USA (not in the UK or Australia) but made no announcements. At the moment, all we have is rumors and gossip, mostly from US dealers. A couple of possibilities: Hethel is only building about 2,000 V6 Emiras each year. Given that limited...

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

The end of 2025 is still 18 months from now and we always expected V6 production to finish by then. That's completely different from people claiming that the V6 is finishing now and being replaced by the 400HP i4.

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

There's been no official communication from Lotus saying that V6 production is finishing this year. Nothing. So far it's all just gossip and rumours. Toyota has only been manufacturing the 2GR-FE engine for use by Lotus for several years, so eliminating the V6 (mostly the 2GR-FKS and 7GR-FKS)...

i4 wih 400HP - post from another Lotus Forum

Lotus cracks me up . . . their communication is so woeful that even their closest followers (this forum, dealers, etc) aren't certain if they're still selling their highest volume product, the V6 Emira. You couldn't make this stuff up.

This. A reasonable estimate is 4,500 Emiras a year given shutdown periods.

    Emira Full Handbook

They stopped providing full owner's manuals about a year ago. Perhaps they have reacted to negative feedback and changed this. My Emira only came with the service manual, quick start manual, and infotainment manual . . not a proper owner's manual.

    Navigation

At least you got it. In Australia, DAB radio and navigation are missing from the Emira after being part of the advertised spec . . . and with no warning or explanation from Lotus at all. So my son's Kia Rio has a better radio and navigation system than my exotic sportscar!

Why are so many Emiras being resold in the USA?

Suspect there were quite a few who thought they could make a bit of money flipping the car.
  32. Nick in Sydney

Why are so many Emiras being resold in the USA?

I don't think it's anything to do with being "unhappy with their purchase". 1. Some US owners have waited three years for their Emiras. It's not surprising that lives have changed and a Lotus Emira may no longer suit them. 2. Interest rates. In June 2021 the Fed funds rate was 0.08%...

A lawyer would have a field day with this. It's in plain English on their website and has been for a couple of years. They can't suddenly claim it was a typo. Paint In addition to the basic warranty, the paint of your Emira is covered for 5 years, regardless of how much you drive.

Soap safe for PPF and wheel cleaner

I don't think you need to be ultra-careful with the soap you use on PPF. If it's pH-neutral and safe for the paint on an expensive car then it will be fine for the PPF too.

    Harry sells his Emira

Agree. It's easy to forget that, despite the terrible launch, Emira has been a massive success for Lotus. In their wildest, wildest, dreams they never expected to take 10,000 deposits for the car. It will almost certainly be the best selling model in the history of the brand (Elise sold 35,000).

That sucks, sorry to hear it. And your car is another example that proves this issue isn't limited to the doors. Frustrating that, as usual, Lotus isn't getting out ahead of the problem and communicating with customers. God forbid they should put out some information on what is obviously a...
