Why would you buy a new Emira in the UK?

That's a long way from the early predictions of big residuals and premiums. I'm buying for keeps so not worried about the markets. However, I do think the Emira is the end of an era for Lotus and will become a future classic. Let's look again in 10 years :)

Why would you buy a new Emira in the UK?

The pool of used V6's could be a bit of a minefield as people have said. You also have to question why those people are selling so soon. Assuming the flippers cashed out early then these are people who either need the cash for something else, got bored of their car or want shot of it due to...

Sterling effort, doing Admiral's job for them. So it seems that the quotes we were getting were actually legit but the labelling was wrong. I still see LOTUS EMIRA FIRST EDITION V6 359 in the policy wording but the details say 1991cc. Going via Meerkats, I get £925 with £700 excess which is the...

Great review that I think echoes a lot of the same things I experienced from my test drive. I agree on the sound. It might not be as sonorous as a V6 or a V8 but it still sounds very purposeful and the turbo adds another dimension too.

That'll be another i4 on Autotrader soon then. I hope we don't see discounted stock too soon!

Also spoke to Tyler and got offered the KGM policy however I didn't get as far as checking their reviews - not good. Admiral could be another option if they get their act together in time but the review above isn't great either. I must admit, I usually insure based on the cheapest premium for...

NCD is a pain. My NCD is currently on our daily with a term that runs to October so I think I'll have to cancel that policy and switch it to my wife's name. Then I can transfer my 9+ years NCD to the Emira. Not ideal. The guy at Manning did suggest they might be able to honour my NCD on the...

Nothing back from Adrian Flux yet (they're always recommended but not come through for me previously). Lockton was £1500! Best so far is Manning at £950 with £850 excess and a limit of 3,000 miles. They do allow you to upgrade the mileage mid-term if needed though. Nothing new on the search...

Similar to what I got from AIB. I'm going to hit up Manning, Adrian Flux and Lockton tomorrow. Equally, I don't want to commit too soon if there could be better deals out there once the i4 lands with more underwriters.

Update on the i4 search. The top 3 from Compare the Market (excluding telematics) are Admiral, Bell, Diamond and Ford Insure but it looks like they're all actually Admiral under the hood as the websites are virtually identical. All resolve down to the V6 instead of the i4 when you review the...

Gutted for you mate. This takes me back to the early days where stuff like this was happening every week. I don't know when yours was manufactured but I'm assuming it's out of the initial bathtub curve.

They rang me yesterday to ask if I was going to check out. I pointed out that I'd checked out on Saturday and she then confirmed this from her spreadsheet . Then I got another email today asking me to checkout! No invoice yet. Fortunately Bell and Colvill have been way more on the ball...

Keeping the car in Tour mode for the 1000 mile break-in

The i4 I test drove last Friday was running in and I was advised to keep it under 4,500 rpm. However, the dealer had no issues with putting it into sport mode for most of the drive :)

Paint Protection Film (PPF) and Wrap for your Emira

I have mine booked in at All That Gleams in Surrey who do work for Bell and Colville. They were recommended way back near the start of this thread and Tom, the owner, has been really great. I went for the front end package plus doors plus ceramic coating and was happy with the price.

I'm seeing policies now but only if I say the car has a tracker. Currently the lowest was around £950 with Admiral but when I followed through to the Admiral site it mentioned V6 so I think things need a little longer to settle down.

I've never had this trouble with insuring a new car before but I guess I was never this close to the front of the queue before! I also got a few coming up on Go Compare today although nothing under £1000. I need to let the dealership know whether I want a tracker fitted but I'm reluctant to...

That's a real shame but understandable so long after the initial excitement almost 3 years ago. I was 50/50 myself until I did the test drive last week and even then the early arrival caught me off guard with the finances a bit! It seems a really bizarre business model by Lotus that sees them...

No, I think that's going to be the overriding factor that determines when I can take delivery. Worst case I will arrange to collect on Saturday 30th March so I stay inside the March offer window but allow maximum time for the insurance policies to show up. I wasn't planning to add a tracker but...

Bell and Colville emailled me this morning to say that my car arrived with them in the afternoon, not long after I left from my test drive! That would be a really interesting comparison, I've only driven the manual V6. I would say the i4 "feels" faster because of the torque but the V6 is more linear. I'd be interested to hear how you find the auto vs DCT. The V6 auto would have been my plan b if the test drive had gone badly.

Just to add, that the car I drove is on the right in the picture and the others are V6's. I don't see any differences up front so the ADAS thing seems accurate.

    Race to the first i4

I had my test drive this morning and I'm happy to report that it was a very positive experience. The car was running in which meant I had a 4,500 rpm limit. However, that was enough to feel that the engine is very eager and despite having to short shift, I could definitely feel the torque...

I will ask about this and other ADAS features tomorrow. I really hope this didn't make the cut. I would gladly pay to delete it!

Why did you choose I4 over V6?

Slow traffic is an unfortunate reality for many of us nowadays which dents the appeal of the manual. I also found the manual gearbox quite idiosyncratic and the clutch on the heavy side. All in all, I think where are better cars to choose if you want the manual experience. I had an original Ford...

    Race to the first i4

I wonder whether there will many used i4s in the short term. I think there must have been a fairly high attrition rate over the last 2.5 years with only really committed people who are looking for keepers sticking with their orders. Hopefully they've ironed out most of the early niggles too so...

Me too. Lotus actually managed to cause even more problems by over delivering this time! I hadn’t planned for the cash flow and the insurance is proving a challenge. I placed my deposit 5/8/21 so I guess we’re all in a similar ballpark. I’m not sure what’s influencing the delivery order. This...

It's going to be a tricky waiting game. Perhaps being at the absolute front of the queue isn't the best thing in this case. I'm hoping the underwriters will catch up over the coming month. I'm waiting on a response from AIB and also going to try Mannings.
