Apex Wheels Survey for Emira (and Evora) Owners

Thanks for sharing this. I know the guys at Apex and they are a great bunch of car guys. I've also purchased their wheels for my Carrera T and they are absolutely a known quantity in the Porsche/BMW/Corvette/Mustang (and many others) space. What makes them so good? They only put out OEM or...

Debate is On...which brand of oil for the i4?

There is no argument, Mobil 1 for its quality and broad availability. Additionally, if you change the oil like I do every 5K miles, the discussion ends even faster. No oil is in there long enough to degrade materially in any way. Oil is cheap, engines are not.

    Lightest weight track wheels

@PatrickJS I came to that conclusion as well. Also, please note, the weight shown above is for the Magnesium version. Aluminum alloy are obviously heavier.

GFB (Go Fast Bits) VTA BOV - Feedback

I'll check them out, but would still like any feedback from anyone who has used the linked version above (GFB) in particular. BTW, for anyone interested, the location of the OEM BOV is right at the top of the engine (left front of turbo) making this about a 5 minute install. Hence my interest...

GFB (Go Fast Bits) VTA BOV - Feedback

I was curious if any of our i4 AMG Emira owners have tried this mod yet? I'm very interested in ordering, but curious if anyone has had any issues given Lotus seems to have the ECU pretty locked down as far as tolerances (think exhaust valve as an example). Details can be found here...

    Isotype Green in the Flesh

Agree, Chrome Orange always seemed more popular back in the original Elise days. BTW, my theory is still that all of these classic colors will be offered at some point in the future as standard off the shelf options (albeit at special paint color pricing for sure). I'm personally loving the...

    Who are "The Drivers"

I've had it for a month, 1200+ miles and an oil service down at 1000. It's now getting "tested". Also, the titanium exhaust is burning in nicely both from a metal patina and exhaust packing perspectives.

    Isotype Green in the Flesh

Really? Considering every dealer has one for sale and most dealers have gotten somewhat rationale and tagged them at MSRP, if you really wanted one, you have about 40 dealers in the US to choose from. BTW, I was just at the San Diego dealership. They have theirs on the showroom floor at MSRP...

Anyone bleed their own brakes on their Emira?

The process is the same as most other cars. Get a pressure bleeder with the specific cap that mounts to our reservoir. To get to the reservoir, you have to remove the bolts holding the front hood down, then remove the plastic shield that covers the reservoir on the left-hand side. I usually...

    I4 Vs V6

I have an I4 Sport, and while it may be a bit more fidgety, it's no where as fidgety as my Alfa 4c which I always thought was trying to kill me on public roads. Here's the scoop, I bought the I4 sport to be a sports car. I track all of my cars and drive them whenever I can. So I don't get...

US I4 (400hp) has fake engine noise pumped through speakers

Agree, I saw the access was a quick pop off of that side panel in the other video I referenced. Thanks for providing this pic. I think I can see which one it is now with this pic as a point of ref. Appreciate it brother.

    Help with CEL P2CEF code

I suspect they'll attempt a flush as mentioned in the video. If that doesn't help, then the thermostats get replaced, ultimately engine replacement, etc. The good news, there seems to be a clear root cause (residual sand from the engine block casting process). The bad news, "residual sand...

US I4 (400hp) has fake engine noise pumped through speakers

@Ryan_929 there's a great video on the "adding a sub" thread that is really good at showing all of the dismantling and access. if you do open up the passenger rear area where the sub is, see if you can snap a pic of the actual wire harness with the green wire you snipped from a distance that...

To tint or not to tint? 😎

Same, I usually go with a medium tint on the side for UV/Heat protection and do windshield protection film that's largely clear, but has Heat/UV protection as well as chip/crack prevention. If you track your car or do canyon runs, gravel and rocks are normal and subsequently so are cracked...

I4 Turbo Air Filter (Intake, not Cabin) - DIY

Would anyone with access to the service manual consider sharing the page or pages that show how the 2.0 Turbo engine air filter is changed? It's essentially under what I believe is the ECU in the upper left-hand corner of the engine bay. Thanks in advance!

    Lightweight battery

@cedricchew For sure, I've had three different Antigravity batteries in 3 different cars. They are bulletproof. I was referring to the reliability of your most recent Amazon battery. If it holds up (long-term), it's a steal at the current price.

    Lightweight battery

@Blackthought_ Totally agree. With that said, I'm keeping an eye on the reliability of these Amazon batteries. for a few months of usage.

    Lightweight battery

Very nice. The quality of the battery is of more concern to me than the price. This is a great data point considering what the antigravity batteries trade for. They are a great product, but prices continue to creep up. They were never cheap, but once they broke $1k, they started approaching...

Lotus halt all delivery to the US.

This. There are tons of cars just sitting (In the US anyway...) and the fact that dealers that wouldn't even return my call are now randomly calling (albeit a month too late as I've already purchased) tells me the little stunt they tried with using "tariffs" as a reason to not discount is...

    Lightweight battery

@cedricchew I'm curious as well. This is almost a standard mod for all of my cars, but I know car electronics can be finicky. So, curious if all has run well over the last 3 weeks?

Access to engine bay from cabin?

Watch any of the videos/pics under the electronics sub-forum related to all of the stereo instal threads. There are access panels and other ways to get to the engine bay.

    Front license plate mount?

Lotus of Los Gatos did the same. The disclosure signature requirement is strictly a CYA thing for the dealer.

I just went to Lotus of SD and they have one as well at MSRP.

Exhaust System Upgrade Options Available for Turbo I4 AMG Engine Yet?

Quick update, my dealer ran the calibration while it was in for an oil change and all good (no more engine lights). He said basically the tolerances on the exhaust flap module are really tight. So, he's not surprised that it needed a calibration. He's done several apparently. Also, a few...

    Exhaust problem i4

Which exhaust is that? Just contact the seller to see if you can buy another one. I just installed my Aerie performance Titanium V2 and the spring was in a plastic bag with the 3 bolts needed to screw in the valve module in your pic. I would also just check the box and floor where you opened...

    911T vs Emira

I was paraphrasing for purposes of simplicity. However, I like that you attached the diagram which further reaffirms my point. the engine is further away from the center and to your point behind the axle making it exceptionally easy to getting the tail to slip. My whole point is getting more...

    Adding a subwoofer

Same question, really curious if you cut the rpm wire or if for some odd reason you don't have the fake RPM driven artificial engine noise.

    911T vs Emira

The second you move it front of the rear axle, it's became materially different. Just think of it this way. You have a 2x4 with a 100 lbs spread across it using four 25 lb weights with 2 side by side to the left and right of the center of that 2x4. Now try to slide/push that 2x4 using one...

    911T vs Emira

Another fun fact, if you zoom in on the driver side rear quarter window of my old Carrera T above, you'll see a round LCOSC (Lotus Club of So. Cal.) sticker. I've never left the managing board despite being in and out and back in a Lotus again. For anyone in So Cal, you should check-out one of...

    911T vs Emira

This. Porsche has known for decades that the mid-engine design is the superior layout (you can't cheat physics). Here's another fun fact, as of, or about 2018, all of the 911 RSR race cars are in fact technically rear mid-engine cars. They redesigned/repositioned the axle lay-out (not...

    911T vs Emira

No, he's referring to absolute weight using 4 corner balancing scales. So the car from dead center is split 60/40 similar to ours. However, you can't just look at absolute weight distribution, you have to look at where it's at. The Emira has a much lower center of gravity and even 60% which...

That should definitely increase volume. The downpipe is a major bottleneck.

Exhaust System Upgrade Options Available for Turbo I4 AMG Engine Yet?

Definitely better than stock. I probably should have recored a base video with the stock exhaust installed. I agree, the video isn't representative of in-person perspective.

Exhaust System Upgrade Options Available for Turbo I4 AMG Engine Yet?

Here's the quick video. first part is just a cold start in touring until idle warm-up completes and drops back down to normal touring idle. Then you get two throttle blips in touring. Then I switch to Sports with two throttle blips there. Then I switch to track mode with two throttle blips...
