I feel bad for my dealership. Lotus Cape Fear built a brand new showroom for their Lotus franchise, undoubtedly with visions of selling Emiras in their purview. Thankfully for them, they're also a BMW motorcycle store, so that and a smattering of used cars is keeping the doors open. But damn...

I'm #6 (I think... Been a while since I checked) at Cape Fear. Actually spent 8 hours on my day off yesterday cleaning and organizing my garage in 90 degree / 180% (estimated) humidity thinking about now nice the Emira will look in there this fall/winter/next spring. 😂

Short answer: No. Long answer: Noooooo.

It's a cool loophole and definitely adds some panache to the car for those who are 'in the know' about it. The savings don't seem as enticing for a 'cheap' exotic like a Lotus, but still cool. Here's a nice description of the manner in which to do it.

Has Lotus offered two distinct powertrains simultaneously in the same platform before? I have a V6 on order and wouldn't be the least bit mad if the I4 made more power than they have claimed. Neutering what that motor is easily capable of just to cowtow to V6 buyers who paid more is dumb. It...

I own AMG vehicles and am a huge Benz guy. It was a VERY hard choice not to reserve an I4 with the fantastic DCT trans. At the end of the day, it was that 3rd pedal that won me over. I don't think anyone opting for the AMG powertrain will be disappointed.
