EVO: BMW M2 v Porsche Boxster GTS v Lotus Emira v Alpine A110 v Ford Mustang

The 718's steering would be better if you wanted to feel insulated from the road surface, to have it all "smoothed out" a bit, to have the steering feel less precise. I can imagine that some drivers would want that and that to some extent is what most Porsches models seem to do well. It's horse...

Essex (UK) Breakfast Meeting - THIS Sunday 27th July @ 9.30am

I'll be there, it's just down the road for me, but just to say hello and for a quick coffee - I'll have to rush off as I need to be in Basildon for 10:15.

    Emira weight distribution

I know very little about the US Camry. If the Camry has the V6 as a front engine, transverse mounted then you will have something very similar with a side mounted gear box and half-shafts too I guess? The Emira gear box is not made by Toyota but not a Lotus specific one either, not sure if the...

    USB advice requested

Probably not the answer you want but I don't think you can - the car's built-in multimedia player is quite under developed. I did try playing off a USB myself but quickly gave up in frustration. You may find it better to get a cheap Android device and use an player app that can read the USB (I...

    Lemon Law Claim

Paint problems with Lotus Emira built Q1 2025?

I think it is too early to tell. Lotus are being very, very quiet about it and not providing any information. This suggests to me they still don't know the cause and so don't know themselves if it is fixed. The closest you are going to come to an answer would be in this thread here which you...

    Paint blistering issue update

Not sure if anyone else has asked this of a dealer but a dealer did also tell me it was a significant proportion of cars, I think he said a quarter but this was some time ago and I don't exactly recall what he said.

    Emira weight distribution

With the engine being mounted transversely, the gearbox is mounted to the side of the engine, on the left-hand side of the car. A half-shaft comes out of the gearbox directly into the left-hand wheel. Another longer half-shaft also comes out of the gearbox travels under the engine to the right...

    Lemon Law Claim

If you love the car then get a replacement. As far as I can tell, although there are quality issues and some cars are "bad", the majority of owners are fairly happy with their cars.

    Paint blistering issue update

Well you have a data point from the poll on this thread. 14 affected (32%) 27 not affected - yet (68%) So roughly 1/3 of cars affected. This ties in quite closely with the other poll about this done on the forum (here). There's obviously some selection bias here.

    Will you buy one today?

Roughly 25 years ago would be just after the Romano Artioli, General Motors and Proton years, Lotus were trying to go broke then too. Lotus has been going broke since they were founded - they would probably try to go broke even before that if they could.

😭😭😭 I know you're right but I'm just going to enjoy the car for now until they have the replacement door and try not to think too hard about the rest. I was paranoid before and checking every time I washed it - I'm doubly paranoid now....

    Hello from Maryland

Hi and welcome to the gang. Also an Elise owner here and used to be a daily driver - now I'm older and don't bend like I used to be able to in my 30s I got an Emira as well. If you are looking at differences in the i4 and V6 cabin noises please be aware of this thread, in case you were not...

Wow - I might be going to the I4 Darkside

I drove both V6M and an i4 on my test drive. Going in I thought 100% manual - no way would I like the automatic. After the test drive, I was really not sure anymore. Loved how the i4 can keep it right in the turbo sweet spot whilst pushing on. I did go for the V6M in the end, more for tradition...

    Central England meet

Nice to see everyone there today. Weather was not the best and got even wetter later, so about normal for a British summer. But it was worth the trip to meet everyone. We'll do it again - hopefully @Orchardbike and everyone else has their cars back by then. My pics - apologies I forgot to take...

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

I'm not entirely sure of the details. Lotus parts I think use the same factory as the Evora, Elise etc are made in. The Teijen parts are meant to be lighter and thinner using something they call "TCA Ultra Lite" composite. Seems to be some kind of compressed fibreglass, using special glass...

    Replacement carbon doors, possible?

I'd been thinking about this for some time and with recent events I thought I would now ask. Some others on this forum had been asking too. Given all the issues owners have had with paint bubbling/blistering on the Teijin supplied panels - and with many cars maybe soon to be past their 3/5 year...

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

No, the front bonnet, front wings, roof and tail are different composite - made by Lotus I think. Front and rear bumper are moulded plastic not composite. The doors, rear quarters and engine cover are made by Teijin in Portugal, using a special "light-weight" composite. The "blister" issues are...

    Paint/panel problems....never ending problem?

Yeah, it sits outside in the UK so lots of rain. Also washed every 2 weeks or so, I do use a jet wash but I'm careful not to use that were it can get inside the car. I'm doubting it has anything to do with water ingress - my bubbles and bubbles I've seen on other cars are not where any trapped...

Poll for Those with Paint Blistering / Bubbling Defect

Yikes! So just the rear quarter-panels left for you then? How long ago did you have the doors replaced and has the blistering come back on the new doors at all? That's what I'm worried about, given that there's no information from Lotus that neither they nor Teijin know what causes this so it's...

Changing my vote as I've just found blisters on my car. First blister came up on my drivers door this Thursday and two more blisters on Friday, same door. I expect it'll spread. From previous answers to this question here on this forum I think the answer is - you can't. Only a dealer seems to be able to check this - if anyone knows otherwise I would like to know too.

    Central England meet

Well at least a few of us will be turning up this Sunday. But it feels a bit pointless if you've not got your car back not to mention seeming a bit like we're rubbing it in if you are there in a courtesy car. I guess we try to do the 7th September as well, if you have your car back by then.

    Paint blistering issue update

Well that's weird, I wonder what is different for your and Nick's cars? My car is an early V6, it has big holes in the bottom of the doors to let water out and the door does not seal against the sills so there's no way water can build up in the doors. How is your car different that it allows the...

What car is more beautiful than an Emira?

Whilst we're on the subject and also talking about personal taste. I love the look of the Elise S1 but the S2 and its angular lines and never "took" with me, same with the Evora and I seriously considered buying one of those. I don't dislike straight edges - one of my favourite cars is the...

    Midlife CARisis Gets a V6M

Welcome to the club, nice car you have there, I hope you enjoy it as much as you did the 650S. Also, glad to hear that you intend to keep the Emira for some time to really get to know it. Be careful, its addictive - I've had my Elise for over 25 years now. :)

    Paint blistering issue update

I have washed mine numerous times. I have never had water build up in the doors nor a waterfall come flooding out of the doors. Same with rain, mine sits outside 24/7 in the British weather - so usually raining - again, never a build up of water. Something must be weird with your doors if you...
