I'm out - the cancellations thread

Validation prototypes are never really finished. First adopters complete the production validation because as the build phases mature (beta, gamma, pilot, plant volume, etc.) the assembly process changes, as does the part maturity and sourcing. DVPR testing should catch most failure modes but it...

    Lotus Communications

TomE, first of all I want to say I respect you, as our shepherd, and I'm sorry that this situation happened to you. With that being said if it wasn't for making the spec changes after your car was built, it sounds like you would of had your car already. That's what made things much more...

    Lotus Communications

Honestly, Lotus manufacturing can't give any updates cause they don't even know what's going on. They're getting tooling together, teaching line workers the process, dealing with delayed material, supplier quality and working with engineering simultaneously. Building cars is not easy business...

    Lotus Communications

Am I the only one who isn't all that bothered by the delays / limited communication? I'm feeling left out! Maybe it's patience, or low expectations for a boutique automaker with limited resources, or having another fun car to enjoy, or knowing deep down that no other car is able to fill the...

    Suspension: Touring and Sports options

I agree with you. A caveat is that I will likely switch the cup 2s for an alternative once they wear out. Roads are also terrible in my parts. But I am leaning towards the most extreme handling version from the factory. And as with you, it will be driven often but not exactly daily driver so...

    Suspension: Touring and Sports options

Have to option the drivers pack to get the sport suspension. Touring is available for less $ No comment on ride height The touring's cornering limits are lower because it's more softly sprung. That softness means it will reach the limit faster than the sport given the same throttle application...

    Suspension: Touring and Sports options

Initially, I was adamant on tour, but after test driving the sports I could not be more confused! During the drive, I thought sports was perfect. Firm, sharp, yet fairly complaint, although every surface imperfection was felt through the chassis. But without having driven the touring, I can't...

What's the appeal? (Emira and Porsche)

The GT3 has been my sole favorite car since the 997 dropped, bar none. It was the embodiment of everything I've ever wanted in a car... engaging, beautiful, comfortable and capable. Riding in a 997 and driving a 991 confirmed it was as good as it gets, worthy of being plastered on the walls of...

Drive Modes explained and Lotus Dynamic Performance Management

So no track mode gauge cluster unless one opts for the driver's pack? That's a shame... It's pretty cool.

I'm out - the cancellations thread

They can both be exciting but have to be driven differently to extract full excitement potential. High revving motors have fun when revved out to peak hp at redline, whereas torquey engines have fun in the midrange after peak torque is available. Keeping a turbo at redline or a peaky engine in...
  11. Lotus64

I'm out - the cancellations thread

This is a main reason why the industry is moving away from peaky engines that have long been favored by BMW, Honda, Porsche, Ferrari... The low end power delivery of torquey turbos / EVs is preferred by the mainstream. It's more accessible in everyday driving situations as opposed to having to...

I'm out - the cancellations thread

Same rule applies, auto or manual. Unless you're dropping the clutch at 2500-4000 rpm, you're going to lose at least 1 sec off the 0-60 waiting for the turbo to spool, which isn't the case for the Emira. Turbos over-perform on acceleration tests / feel vs. the real world.
  13. Lotus64

I'm out - the cancellations thread

Do those of you with turbo'd cars routinely brake torque / use launch control off the line? If not, you're at least 1 sec slower than the quoted 0-60 without the hard launch.
  14. Lotus64

I'm out - the cancellations thread

That doesn't sound right. Are you sure you visually confirmed where you were in the range? It doesn't matter in a turbo but here it does.
  15. Lotus64

I'm out - the cancellations thread

It depends on where peak hp / tq occur in the range. Most new turbo engines / large NA V8s make the meat of their hp / tq in the mid range but smaller displacement NA engines and supercharged ones generally make it at the top of the range. The Emira makes max power hp @ redline whereas some...

I'm out - the cancellations thread

I think I can comment on everyone's experience. Unless one got the chance to WOT the Emira all the way to redline, either confirmed visually by the tach or by bouncing off the rev limiter, then they left some beans on the table.
  17. Lotus64

I'm out - the cancellations thread

Your reasons for getting something else are valid but it's not fair to say you weren't impressed by the acceleration when you didn't get to experience the brunt of it at the upper end of the tach.

The Emira has a faster 5-60 rolling start time than the M240i.

Had the car ceramic coated over the weekend 😁

My only decision is whether to get partial ppf or full coverage. I'd love the convenience of having the car delivered with it. I've had shoddy ppf jobs hold up for 10 years, so I'm not too concerned about the quality of an OEM job, especially if the price undercuts other shops. And then a layer...

Four minute acceleration vid, from inside the car and out

Lotus officially quotes 0-100 km/h as 4.2s for the I4 and 4.2/4.3s for the V6. In the real world, the V6 should be quicker in most driving conditions than the I4. The I4 isn't going anywhere until the turbo has spooled. I estimate a 5-60 rolling start of 4.6/4.7s for V6 and 5.3s for I4. These...

The great big "all the customer test drives" thread

I hope the "hollow" comments didn't come off as negative. Just an observation and probably nitpicking. The shifter is fantastic the way it is and is rewarding and unique to operate.

The great big "all the customer test drives" thread

Hollowness is a great descriptor for the shifter. There is an unexpected lightness/emptiness you can feel through the centerline of the shift lever. Maybe it's related to weight savings? Once in the gate, the Emira's shifter slips all the way to the end of it's travel with very little effort...

    Desirability

In my humble opinion, all Lotuses are desirable. Low volumes + lotus engineering expertise have kept the demand higher than supply, historically. That won't change with the Emira. It's already sold out.

Let’s talk about the offset pedal box

I'm 6'1, 195 lbs, size 14. Longer legs / shorter torso. With size 14 Puma driving shoes, I didn't notice the offset or any interference with the LHD Emira during the test drive. It was a non issue. With normal sneakers / boots on, I can't say if there would be interference or not. But even...

When is the V6 going to be discontinued???

In an alternate universe without financial woes, a supercharged version of the FKS/FSE would have been a logical progression for the Emira in both power and fuel economy. Fun fact: Toyota offered a supercharged 2GR-FSE in the 2009 Toyota Mark X +M.
  36. Lotus64

When is the V6 going to be discontinued???

2GR-FKS is used in transverse applications including the Lexus RX and Toyota Sienna. It's very similar to the 2GR-FE aside from the differences in fuel injection. Both could be adapted for transverse or longitudinal applications, depending on the paired transmission. They can be used...

The off topic Porsche discussion thread

The most behaved mate gets to ride with me. Everyone else will have to find their own way, or we can all split a rental car. In fact, that may be better as there would be less concern about them beating up my car. I'm not an Uber!

The off topic Porsche discussion thread

The 911 Dakar is the same weight as a normal 911. Off-road performance, i.e. rallying not rock climbing, will annihilate the Macan / Cayenne due to the weight savings of 1000-2000 lbs. It's hard to think of a better vehicle suited for a ski trip in the mountains, blasting over sand dunes or...
