This view seems too balanced and sensible, with not enough inflammatory dog-whistling... I can't see it catching on ;)

It's just an engineering choice (for venting the engine bay) that you have to live with... if you remember to be careful / gradual when opening the hatch, and only initially lift it a few inches and give the water a few seconds to drain in a controlled manner, it's no big deal 🤷‍♂️

Really interested to hear if you find these quiet enough... I'd love a lower dust alternative, but not keen on squealing and rumbling to a stop at every traffic light :)

Interesting that your measurements show Track to be 3db quieter than "road-going" modes (halfway up the range) ... I wonder if the valve actuation is tuned for places like the UK, where circuit noise limits are lower 🤔
