Under the skin: Why the Lotus Emira's four is more exciting than its V6

I look at it this way. Who is going to the track regularly and who is going to be driving their car in more day to day situations. The nearest track to me is 2.5 hours away and I would have to schedule a weekend. I would rather have a manual so I can enjoy my daily driving. I am non interested...

    Speculative price

This. Everything is an option on a Porsche and they get expensive very quick. I am guessing a fully loaded V6 with manual will be close to $100k.

There would be armed revolution (at least here in the south) if you made manufacturers limit exhaust sounds!

Also, in UK they use soft limiters, right? In the U.S. we have no such restriction.

    Will be first Lotus

I have had numerous sports cars and this will be my first Lotus. Probably the most excited I've ever been about a car and I've had porsches, M cars, and AMGs, and Audi S's. Really look forward to it. Cars like this (gas, manual trans) won't be around much longer. It's a keeper.

Under the skin: Why the Lotus Emira's four is more exciting than its V6

That is what I am saying. Manuals are going away which is why I am getting a manual. I get paddle shifting if you live in central london, but I don't. There is no substitute for 3 pedals in terms of driving experience and control. I am not worried about track times, I am focused on daily driving...

Under the skin: Why the Lotus Emira's four is more exciting than its V6

This exactly. Manuals will soon be extinct. There is no substitute for the fun of driving a manual transmission. Sure the AMG engine is nice new technology, but that does not overcome the driving experience of a clutch/shifter.

What are you driving until the Emira arrives?

Hopefully that is not the case. Your position is not that bad. I am not sure what the total allocation is to America, much less the dealer, but I hope we can be swapping stories about the cars come next year.

Sports Car Shootout: Lotus Emira Vs. Porsche Cayman GT4

Right. I've read the same thing about the gearing on the Cayman GT4 and GTS. What good is a manual if your gearing is too high? I was looking at both of these, but once the Emira was announced, it was over. I know I will enjoy driving the Lotus more, plus Caymans are everywhere, and it looks so...

What are you driving until the Emira arrives?

#4 is what I was told. Probably the most I've ever looked forward to a car and being in my 50's, I've had many. This one checks all the boxes for me.

I'm right there with you. Thinking Alcantera for the seats/interior, but probably leather for steering wheel. I don't like how Alcantera looks on the wheel after some wear.

What are you driving until the Emira arrives?

Just sold my 2017 Range Rover SVR (since the used market is crazy now), and kept my 2013 RR sport supercharged as my daily driver. I was thinking about getting maybe an older GTI to have fun with while I wait for the Emira, but the used car market which helped me with my RR sale is terrible on...

I am a Flow customer as well (or at least will be). Where are you on the pre-order list?

Made my deposit July 8th. 4th in the State. Will load up the config when time comes. This car is a keeper and going with the V6 (have to have a manual trans!). Can't decide between green and tan or green and black alcantera? Any thoughts?

What engine will you go with Toyota V6 or AMG 4? [poll]

Deposit in the day after it was announced. V6 with manual. Transmission was easily the reason to buy. Won't be another car like this anymore. Very excited to get it.
