Here is what the shift knob looks like. I used a lathe to cut the recess and epoxied in a nut with the same threads.

I wasn't happy with the shift knob and have done a couple of modifications that I don't think anyone has done yet. My first thought was to get a really good good looking wooden ball and make my own shift knob.
