We've been using TomTom's devices that you stick to the screen for ages in our old cars that don't have Android Auto etc. We use one device and put it in the car we are using. What's more my wife can use it. I like the way they present the maps and traffic information. Lane guidance at junctions...
I used it once when I first got the car but was disappointed with it after years of a Tom Tom device. I bought the Tom Tom app and use that via Android Auto. Sometimes use Google Maps just to see how that's doing.
But yes, why have it built in if they are not going to update it.

I moved over slightly on a back road bend when a car coming in the opposite direction was closer to the centre line than I liked.

My initial "fix" (see above) hasn't worked as rocks were still being collected and one side had the foam strip coming partially away and collecting rocks on its sticky side as well.
I've gone for @crestima 's solution with a sealing trim that pushes into the gap.
Let's see how this does.
