There is a point where you net zero advantage with additional weight. Fighting the knob from gear is a thing. You want a good balance in the linkage.

Mustache is for 1-2 and reverse lock out. Changing should be easy just make aure you change to a material thickness that is similar to the steel and its thickness for rigidity.
